ANNOUNCING THE SECOND ANNUAL STARGATT WRITING COMPETITION WINNERS

The Delaware Bar Foundation is pleased to announce the winner of the second annual Stargatt Legal Ethics Writing Competition is Randall Teti.  He was presented with his award at the Office and Trial Practice Seminar on November 1, 2018.  Mr. Teti is an associate attorney at Ashby & Geddes in the Corporate Litigation and Counseling Practice Group.  He served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Andrea L. Rocanelli of the Superior Court of the State of Delaware.  Mr. Teti graduated summa sum laude from Widener University Delaware Law School.

The Foundation extends our congratulations to the second and third place winners, Lorin Huerta and James Beslity.

Thank you to all those who wrote and submitted their writing to the competition.  As was the case last year, selecting a winner among all the terrific submissions was difficult.

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR BOARD MEMBERS

The Foundation would like to congratulate Betsy McGeever, who just stepped down after eight years of dedication to our Board of Directors, on receiving the First State Distinguished Service Award.  The DSBA describes this award as ” a member of the Delaware Bar who, by exemplary leadership and service dedicated to the cause of good citizenship in civic and humanitarian service over a period of many years has maintained the integrity and honored recognition of the legal profession in community affairs and who, as an outstanding Delawarean, unceasingly advances the ideals of citizen participation and community accomplishment, thus reflecting high honor on both country and profession”.  We can think of no person better suited to be awarded this honor.

Michael Houghton has completed his term as President of the DSBA.  Through his leadership, the DSBA has created a committee on Civic Participation and Pro Bono Opportunities as a way to enhance the lifestyles of attorneys and help them to provide meaningful service to the communities. Mike has also spearheaded the commissioning of a study of the economic contribution the legal community in Delaware makes to the state’s economy.  The valuable information gleaned from the study will help to put a point on the actual contribution the attorneys, judiciary and the laws of the state have on Delaware’s bottom line.  Thank you Mike for your service to Delaware’s legal community.

Congratulations to Harvey Rubenstein, who served the Board of the Delaware Bar Foundation as both a member and President.  On July 17, 2018 Harvey was presented with the Governor’s Heritage Award by Governor John Carney.  This award is given to an individual who “has made a distinguished contribution to the recognition, preservation, and celebration of Delaware’s heritage.”  Harvey has served on the Commission for over 40 years and has authored several books about Delaware history.
